Matthew Brodnax and the Blues Sherpas
October 16 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Joining Brodnax on guitar and vocals is Mike Van Summern who moved to Austin after spending the time in a New England blues scene that fostered talents such as Ronnie Earl and fellow Maine native-turned-Austinite Nick Curran. Van Summern’s swing-blues guitar and vocals are a smooth and refreshing style that provides a perfect foil to Brodnax’s down-home howl.
Providing the backbeat and backbone of the group is the dynamic rhythm section of bassist Zaz Marshall(Early Times, Clan Dyken, Sacramento Theatre Company) and has featured many drummers including legendary drummer Wes Starr(Asleep at the Wheel, Anson Funderburgh and The Rockets, Omar and The Howlers). Marshall and Starr provide a solid groove that keeps the music flowing and the crowd on their feet.
Together, this exceptional lineup of musicians brings together a groovy blend of classic Chicago and New Orleans Blues with just enough vintage soul and funk to keep it interesting. Already gracing such stages such as The Skylark Lounge, Brass Hall in Marble Falls, Banger’s Beer and Sausage Garden, The Sonesta Hotel in Bee Cave, and Houston’s Shakespeare’s Pub, Matthew Brodnax and The Blues Sherpas are always booking and are ready to perform at your venue/restaurant/hotel/private event.
You can also catch Matthew, Mike, Zaz, and a cast of talented drummers every Tuesday at the Big Easy Bar and Grill on East 12th street for the Bluesday Tuesday Jam from 8-10:30.
