Al Dressen’s Super Swing Revue
Al Dressen’s Super Swing Revue playing Western Swing like its supposed to sound. Thirty years ago, their first gig as a Western Swing band was in July of 1982, at Austin’s famous Broken Spoke Dancehall. At this time there was only a handful of full time Western Swing bands in Texas. Their bandleader and vocalist is Al Dressen. He was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2009 and has been an Austin based musician since his high school years.
Band alumni includes such greats as Jimmy Day and Herb Remington on steel guitar, Bob White, and Bob Boatright on fiddles, Louise Rowe on bass, Floyd Domino on piano, Erik Hokkanen on guitar, and vocalists Leon Rausch, Maryann Price, Chris O’Connell and Janet Lynn. Today’s band includes Lonnie Atkinson on guitar, Ricky Turpin and Katie Holmes on fiddles, Wes Starr on drums, Billy Dee on bass, Denny Mathis on steel, Mark Kazanoff on sax, Paul Glasse on mandolin, Ronnie Stewart on guitar, and Danny Levin on piano.
